But as a visitor, you can also enjoy the atmosphere of the Venetian carnival.

The first mention of this festival dates back to 1094. It had been an official holiday in the then Venetian Republic since 1296, but it was not until the late 18th century that it was celebrated as it is today.

The date of Carnival, like Easter, is fluid, beginning on the second day of Nativity and ending on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. This time it falls between January 23 and February 92017. The entire period is filled with balls, concerts, costume parades, many plays, and fireworks. The carnival ends with a grand ball held in St. Mark\’s Square. 24]benátky karneval
